Part 1 of this test has six numeric answers and every one of them arrives beside a competing figure — two sailing times that are wrong, a third passenger's fare, a foot-passenger arrival time, an amendment fee. There is nothing to work out here. There is only the discipline of waiting for the sentence to finish before writing anything down.
Part 4 is the most uncomfortable lecture in this set, and deliberately so. It covers how rubber was tapped in the Amazon under forced labour, and how the Brazilian monopoly ended when an Englishman removed seventy thousand seeds. IELTS Part 4 does not always describe pleasant things, and candidates who have only practised on cheerful topics find the register unfamiliar.
