IELTS Listening Practice Test

B2 – Azmoon IELTS Listening Practice Test 8 – Full

Answers and a full breakdown of your mistakes are shown as soon as you finish.

Part 4 of this test answers a question you have probably never thought to ask: why was purple the colour of emperors? The answer is not taste. It took roughly ten thousand sea snails to produce a few grams of dye, and Roman law eventually restricted the colour by rank. The lecture then explains why an eighteen-year-old chemist looking for a malaria treatment accidentally destroyed four thousand years of that meaning in a single afternoon.

Part 3 contains the sharpest ethical problem in the whole set. Two students measuring air quality outside primary schools realise that naming the worst school would follow it for years — and that anonymising it makes the finding useless to the parents who need it. They do not resolve it comfortably, which is the honest outcome.
