This is the hardest reading test in our set, and the difficulty is in the paraphrasing rather than the vocabulary. Passage 1 makes a distinction most readers miss on first pass: languages are usually lost through *shift*, not through the death of speakers, and a community can be growing while its language disappears. Three questions depend on holding that distinction.
Passage 3 is about automated systems in creative work, and it is the most current thing we have written. One of the three specialists refuses to give advice at all, on the grounds that the last round of confident advice — learn to code, the creative work is safe — was exactly wrong. Question 40 turns on whether you noticed she was declining rather than answering.
